Tool for pregenerated characters

While writing the quickstart, I came to a point where I had the need of a support in the creation of a character, be it playing or non-playing one! This need was simply a consequence of the module I am almost done for the quickstart: in it both PCs and NPCs should be prepared and the most effective solution was to build up a tool to generate a character 'on the fly'. Being quite skilled with Excel, I prepared first a tool for the generation of a single character. That helped me in preparing the 4 PCs for the adventure.  After that I modified it in order to have a group of NPCs (from 1 to 4) done with the same logic... the limit for this second version was that the group should have got the same career: that was in line with the adventure since I had to create a group of 4 men-at-arms and a group of 4 clerics... easy peasy! At that stage I found a good idea to provide the friend who is running the playtest with this file... he was happy to see such a support! But at that stage I

"In a nutshell" the quickstart of the VI·VIII·X KUP RPG

Very quick description of the book I'm currently working on. The origin of this book (unforseen in the original project) is a comment I gathered from several communities about the fact that an approach to an RPG with a non-light set of rules like VI·VIII·X is difficult nowadays. A kind of introductory book would smooth the difficulty to approach to such a game and allow more people to know it. Therefore... here we go! The book, is now under construction! I have not yet clear the complete table of contents as I am building it along the way... this means that it is not yet clear what I will include in it. My overall goal is to add in there only pieces of the core book that allows players to have a quick approach (i.e. fast and simple) and avoid the more complex ones... This will be done for the sake of the players. For the GMs I will at least leave them a summary of the more complex rules in order to foster their curiosity and if they want to dig further on them. How I am going to do

Xmas in advance! Ho-ho-ho!!!

Back from the mountain, I found two parcels in my mailbox! That was totally unexpected as the postal provider sent me a notice these would have been dispatched next Tue (and it was on Sat!)... So, the wait has ended, it is time to open the presents I asked to Santa with a couple of weeks in advance! I can't wait a second more! Let's start with the thin parcel... So, here we have the 3 softbacks all together: PC Notebook, GM Notebook and NPC Roster... some more details for each of them... Now, the thick parcel, the one with the hardbackssss... Ho-ho-ho!!! Let's open it with the due time and trying to 'taste' the moment... Here we gooo... They are both beautiful! Needless to say I have already found something I would have made different if I were aware of... anyway, this is another lesson learnt! Now a close-up on the core rules: And the same room on the stage also for the second 'baby', I know it is thinner than the firs tone but it is not less important as i

Kudos to Boranera!

This post is fully dedicated to miss D., aka Boranera. She is a talented artist of my town who has recently published an outstanding book:  Codex Monstrum . I met her at the presentation of her book, unfortunately I had no time to congrat with her as I had to leave the event before the end (normal issues with kids... totally unpredictable!). I wrote her asking whether or not she was interested in supporting my project and explained her my idea of the whole thing with a particular focus on the cosmogony where I felt I had to deserve it something special. Boranera reacted very positively and in less than one hour we were discussing about details of my ideas for the cosmogony! (...and please consider that it was the first time we have met!) Well, at the end we came to an agreement: as I plan to reproduce an old parchment, I asked her to enrich it with 4 "miniature" (i.e. a small artwork that used to be placed on the top or borders of medieval books): 2 per page, a couple for the

A fruitful week brought to light new GM aids

This week has been definitely fruitful: I had the chance to work together with two persons which helped me to strongly focus on the project and this generated the so called "virtuous circle" effect. I will be happy to detail the two events on a separate post, however I do confirm here that these both helped me to move ahead and to foster the development of the setting for the game! A lot! Back to this positive momentum: while I was thinking to the contents and how to organize and deploy the mass of ideas within the books, I had a moment of reflexion on the proper order I should follow to be able to carry out all the sub-projects I have in mind with a consistent sequence. The first priority goes, useless to say, to the core rules. Once I will get the proofread, I need to concentrate all the energies over there so that I can launch a playtest edition and have time (while playtest takes place) to complete the other parts of the project. In this context I asked myself: is the GM

First printed products arrived yesterday!

Image
Yesterday I found in the mailbox the first items ever printed for the VI·VIII·X game! They are the PC Notebook and the GM notebook. In a previous post I wrote about them: they are conceived instead of the flying sheets of paper that usually both players and master have around the table. These are namely notebook where everyone playing at VI·VIII·X KUP RPG has and where it is supposedly room for any note. Here we go... front and back of the booklets: First and last page of the PC Notebook: ...and first and last page of the GM Notebook: As I have already written the artworks on the cover are based on a teal color range just to point out that these are the "Playtest edition"... if hopefully I will ever be able to publish a final version of the game, I will use the original colors of these wonderful pieces of art! I am really satisfied with the outcome (I only need to fix the page count, but this is a detail!).

First playing aids for VI·VIII·X

It took me more than planned but I finalized the first two supplements for the VI·VIII·X game. These are called "Notebook". The first one is for PCs, it is a 20-page booklet where the player can record any info he likes about the campaign; in terms of contents there are some pages which replaces the traditional PC sheet, some other pages dedicated to any info about the campaign and lastly some useful ref charts which can be used "on the fly" by the player. Hereby the cover of the PC Notebook. The artwork is by G.Doré, it is entitled "Enigma" and it is, to my eyes, very charming. For the playtest version I purposely decided to swap the artwork to a scale of teal in order to make a clear distinction between this "beta" version and the final one.  The concept for this product is that I find a small booklet more useful instead of a single-page sheet which is always added to other loose sheets (one for magic, another for notes and so forth). In this c
